Dr Mark Burnley is an exercise physiologist with expertise in endurance performance and exercise-related fatigue. He performed his doctoral studies on the kinetics of oxygen uptake (i.e., the time it takes to "switch on" the aerobic system). His subsequent research has investigated the critical power concept, neuromuscular fatigue processes and the resulting fluctuations in muscle output. Mark used to run competitively at a regional level, but like most exercise physiologists, was not particularly talented. He is better at studying performance instead.
