Digital disruption has changed entertainment consumption profoundly, shifting consumer expectations and behaviors. Despite this, the business-to-business marketplaces that supply the content enabling these profound changes have, themselves, been resistant to change. But change is a powerful force and thanks to a global pandemic, 2020 was the year that people were forced out of their comfort zones and discovered new ways to conduct business.

The digital revolution arrived at the content marketplace just as the content marketplace found itself looking for a digital solution.

Today we’re speaking with Ian McKee, the CEO and co-founder of Vuulr – the business that created the largest global digital content marketplace.

Topics discussed include:

What the origin of Vuulr’s name tells you about the value they place on optimizing search.
How a digital content marketplace addresses seller pain points.
Why a digital content marketplace democratizes the content landscape.
How expanding access to content choices broke the 80:20 rule.
Why Vuulr is has already developed a turnkey blockchain solution, but hasn’t turned that key … yet.

Ian McKee is the Founder and CEO of Vuulr, the online global Film & TV content marketplace. Vuulr connects buyers with distributors worldwide, allowing them to negotiate and complete deals online in days, not months.

Originally from the UK, Ian has more than 20 years’ experience in the field of technology, digital marketing and disruptive innovations under his belt. In his first entrepreneurial venture, Ian founded Vocanic, a social media and digital marketing firm in 2004 and led the business to become the largest social media technology business in Southeast Asia.  WPP Group acquired Vocanic in 2014 and integrated it to GroupM the media investment arm of WPP.

Grounded in data and technology, Ian always had a knack for trendspotting new technologies in their nascent stages – whether it was championing artificial intelligence at Sun Microsystems, or witnessing the transformative effects of the first big data revolution at IRI, and seeing how social media was going to disrupt the advertising sector.

In 2020, Ian was named by Business Insider as one of the top 10 leaders transforming media and advertising in Asia in 2020.

Vuulr is a global online content marketplace for film & TV rights that connects buyers with distributors worldwide, providing them with a platform to negotiate and transact directly and securely online.
