Returning guest, Melissa Florer-Bixler, is the pastor of Raleigh Mennonite Church and author of many books – most recently: “How to Have an Enemy: Righteous Anger & the Work of Peace.” The book tackles just about everything that the white Church needs to start having hard conversations about.

The question that emerged for Melissa after the 2016 election – as it did for many of us, I’m sure – was, “How the hell did we end up with a white supremacist as the president of our country?” When white Christians began grappling with this question, their response was, “We’re so divided! How do we talk to the other side!?” No, you know what? Sometimes it’s OK to make an enemy. We talk about the enmity between Jesus and the Jewish leaders, how differences without enmity are OK, and what Mary Magdalene can teach us about making enemies.
