ABOUT THE GUEST:
I have been a creative person all my life. Whether I am drawing, sculpting, writing or painting, I love to create. I am a self taught artist who comes from outside the mainstream art world. Art brut, if you will. Creating— especially drawing and painting—is a passion that I’m driven to fulfil. My calling.
I began painting seriously in 2008, on Hornby Island, experimenting with colour and texture.
During my time there, I ran my own day care business. After my work day was done, I found time to create—from clay sculpture to costume design to constructing marionettes. Getting my first camera and seeing the world through it's lens inspired me to paint.
I loved working with acrylics because it allowed me to play with and manipulate colours. Although I am inspired by many things, colour and the human form most deeply excite me. My work often tells a story, and I enjoy listening to what people see and how they interpret what I create. Mastering the skill of drawing portraits helped me develop a more personal style in my painting.
I moved to Victoria in 2012. Now my primary focus is drawing with graphite, charcoal and soft pastels. Also, I love working with oils.
In 2018, I entered three of my pieces into a major, adjudicated art exhibit. Two sold. The third won Best In Show for Works On Paper.
I love learning, growing and improving as I delve into each piece with great anticipation for what I can create next.
Art is and always will be a learning experience.
