In today’s podcast (episode 12), I am joined by the Assistant Commissioner for Immigrant and Refugee Affairs with the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. Anisa Hajimumin is the State of Minnesota’s primary Specialist on Immigrant and Refugee Affairs. An immigrant herself, Anisa was born in Somalia and eventually immigrated to Minnesota.

Anisa is an amazing thought leader who has founded and led two businesses with a focus on providing technical and strategic support to entrepreneurs from communities of color, immigrants and refugees. And it she doesn't stop here my friends. Anisa took her boldness and passion to her home country Somalia where she served as the Minister of Women, Development and Family Affairs in Puntland, Somalia from 2014 through 2017.

Anisa is an extraordinary leader who is passionate about unearthing the great potentials within her, and those around her. As an Execute she has in depth experience in leading collaborative initiatives with local state agencies, national agencies as well as government entities to move forward policies that make a positive impact to the communities she serves.

In Somalia: Anisa led an effort that increased women’s political participation, oversaw building centers to serve women, youth and people with disabilities, and launched and implemented policies for gender development, Female Genital Mutilation and Girl/Women Empowerment.

Anisa holds a Masters in Public Administration from Hamline University and BA in Gender Studies with minors in Creative Writing. Anisa is also a mother to three beautiful children, an amazing author and public speaker. She is currently working on an anthology series of short stories to be published in early 2021.

So with that my friend, grab yourself a good cup of coffee, a comfortable sofa because you will not want to miss this one.
