TwoSistas welcomed to today’s podcast on this TrendingThursday, April 27, 2023, Abbey Heagney.  Abbey is a health and mindset coach and owner of Wellness with Abbey.   Abbey believes that all women deserve to feel healthy and confident in their body – while living the life they love. Abbey learned how to find confidence in who she is and live her healthiest life without restrictions or guilt.

We chatted about the wellness industry as a whole and how that overwhelming perception of transformation will be different for everyone.  With wellness, comes transformation and with transformation is the ability to connect with our mindset to effectuate change.  Change, by the way, is hard!

Combine change with the negative stories we tell ourselves.  I don’t have enough time, I’m not good enough, I can’t do this.  With all of that negative chatter, we have to find that balance to not just hear but listen to our inner voice.  We tend to treat our personal connection with food as the enemy.

Abbey knows from personal experience.  She is a Reformed Self-Hater.  Abbey used her connection with food as the enemy while using movement (exercise) as a further means of punishment.  From early on, her inner mean girl was obsessed with haunting her in a way that she indeed became a self-hater.

During that time frame, Abbey was involved with gymnastics and it was one thing her coach had said to her in passing that really stuck with her “not to gain weight”.  Abbey realized that the coach did not say that to be mean or cruel to herself or her teammates, however, it was Abbey who literally and figuratively looked for evidence on how this applied to her in the field of sports she loved.

The relationship between food, loving yourself enough to have compassion is lacking for many women and why gaining weight and being unhealthy is more than just a physical aspect.

It’s certainly “hard” and we all go through hard things.  Maybe it’s like being at a crossroad:  you have to choose your hard and choose it wisely.  Finding that confidence is part of the journey and each step or stone you cross will lead you to your destination!

Just remember, it’s okay to stay in your lane as there is no one-size fits all cookie cutter approach.  Honor your individuality and believe that no matter where you are starting or what you’ve tried in the past, it’s possible to achieve any goal you set for yourself!
