Upgrading My Plex Media Server (2018)

November 18, 2018 17:09

In this post I'm going to outline my Plex Media Server build that I put together recently, why I chose the things I did, and how it turned out.  First, though, I need to tell you what system I came from and what I'm upgrading from. A long, long time ago, in a rent house in Dallas, I purchased an HP Pavilion desktop, for home computing and to edit and manage the Twisted Gamer Radio podcast that I was starting.  It didn't need to be fast, I just needed it to do one thing, and occasionally brow...

Twisted Gamer Radio - 03-13-2018

March 14, 2018 21:41

Hello everyone! Welcome back! I've been busy with life and other things, but we missed you guys. I miss the therapeutic nature of talking into this microphone. I hope you guys have enjoyed your 5 years of peace and quiet from Twisted Gamer Radio. But guess what, I'm back! And to celebrate this momentous occasion I summoned the dark lord of the underworld Satan to come on the show. On today's Twisted Gamer Radio: - World Of Warcraft Is Demonic - Where Have I Been - Game Gripe: When...

Video Game Backlog: The Enemy Of Gamers Everywhere

March 26, 2013 02:12

If you've been keeping track of me here, on Twitter or Tumblr, you know that I'll be a first-time dad by the middle part of June of this year.  My wife and I are having a baby girl, and we have decided to name her Clementine.  I'm not going to sit here and type that we named her after Telltale's video game Walking Dead character, but I will say that by playing through all 5 episodes of the game, hearing it over and over throughout the course of 10+ hours, and seeing a ...

TGR Episode 13 - Ramblings, Fun Times, and Hot Coffee

September 13, 2012 22:46

Hey guys, hope you enjoyed all of the panels from last year's Gearbox Community Day. We're only a few days away from the huge day, and already my cockles are already tingling with excitement. That means we are just that much closer to the Borderlands 2 release and launch party. I've got a couple of good friends coming in from out of town, so I didn't really have a lot of time to put the show together this week. Enjoy though, it's mostly just ramblings and a few stories. On today's Twis...

Gearbox Community Day 2011 - Borderlands Panel

September 06, 2012 22:17

We're only a few weeks away from the second Gearbox Community Day on Sept. 15th, and what better way to get pumped up and excited for the panels and the Borderlands 2 launch party extravaganza than to go back and listen to last year's Borderlands panel.  If you missed out on all of the previous panels from that day, you can click these links to go back and listen (Aliens: Colonial Marines, Borderlands, Brothers In Arms: Furious 4, and Duke Nukem Forever) but for now enjoy the long, gazillio...

Gearbox Community Day 2011 - Aliens: Colonial Marines Panel

August 30, 2012 23:05

We're about a month out from the second Gearbox Community Day on Sept. 15th, and what better way to get pumped up and excited for the panels and the Borderlands 2 launch party extravaganza than to go back and listen to last year's panels.  I'll eventually put up all of the panels for the games talked about over the course of that day (Aliens: Colonial Marines, Borderlands, Brothers In Arms: Furious 4, and Duke Nukem Forever) but for now enjoy the dark, scary, and xenomorph filled panel of A...

Gearbox Community Day 2011 - Brothers In Arms: Furious 4 Panel

August 23, 2012 22:35

We're about a month out from the second Gearbox Community Day on Sept. 15th, and what better way to get pumped up and excited for the panels and the Borderlands 2 launch party extravaganza than to go back and listen to last year's panels.  I'll eventually put up all of the panels for the games talked about over the course of that day (Aliens: Colonial Marines, Borderlands, Brothers In Arms: Furious 4, and Duke Nukem Forever) but for now enjoy the entertaining panel of Brothers In Arms: Furi...

TGR Episode 12 - The "Compacted" Episode

August 23, 2012 22:29

We haven't really done an "official" show in quite some time now, so I decided to give a brief update, tell a few things I'm going through at the moment, and basically rant on a few things gaming. I even ask for advice on a certain Xbox Live issue with a "former friend". No fucked up news today, but I make up for that by doing a double Sound Clip Corner. Enjoy! Plus, I'll be posting the second edition of the Gearbox Community Day. On today's Twisted Gamer Radio: - Yet Another Angry Cal...

Gearbox Community Day 2011 - Duke Nukem Forever Panel

August 16, 2012 23:07

We're about a month out from the second Gearbox Community Day, and what better way to get pumped up and excited for the panels and the Borderlands 2 launch party extravaganza than to go back and listen to last year's panels.  I'll eventually put up all of the panels for the games talked about over the course of that day (Aliens: Colonial Marines, Borderlands, Brothers In Arms: Furious 4, and Duke Nukem Forever) but for now enjoy the finale that is Duke Nukem Forever. Now there is no rhyme ...

TGR Episode 11 - Berating Your Kids Is A Good Thing

July 20, 2012 18:59

Games imitating art.....or something to that extent.  Good times.  Oh hey!  We're back with another all-new, freshly wrapped Twisted Gamer Radio.  We took the week off for 4th of July, and then decided one wasn't good enough, so we took another one (accidentally because of scheduling conflicts).  But we're back, settled into our normal spots and ready to spit out all the stupidness and crap that go along with this podcast.  Enjoy! On today's Twisted Gamer Radio: - Duke Nukem Reads 50 Shad...

TGR Episode 10 - Playing Video Games Is "Not Normal" Apparently

June 29, 2012 21:34

Due to a slight scheduling problem, we had to record the podcast a little bit late this week.  We did get around to doing it, so strap in and get your ear-holes ready.  Do we have a bombshell for you guys today.  Dalyn and I discuss a myriad of issues going on with the gaming industry, how it's "not normal for a man in his 20's to play video games", and talk about skeeting and taking a dump on a chicks face just to get her to blink.  Does this interest you?  Then you need to listen to the b...

TGR Episode 9 - The Best Podcast In F@#king, Austria

June 21, 2012 22:36

We're still reeling from E3 2012, and bring down the video game new to a slight roar on this show. We've still got a lot of content to cover, which makes for some heated conversations and rants, so the show isn't lacking in that category. Sit back, relax, and let the stupidity in. It's time for Twisted Gamer Radio! On today's show: - Robert Bowling Announces A New Game - Black Man Or White Man Crime - How To Apply Makeup To Look Like A Puppy - Fucked Up News:  Man Holds "Friend" At Gun...

TGR Episode 8 - The Post E3 Extravaganza

June 15, 2012 00:47

Wow.  We've got almost 2 hours of podcast here for your enjoyment.  It's the week after E3, and there's tons of shit to talk about, pour over, and analyze.  We try to give you the most important nuggets, while stripping away all of the extra fat that was E3 2012.  Please enjoy the show, and don't forget to subscribe to us via iTunes and rate us over there.  We would appreciate it you hardcore minions. On today's Tw...

TGR Episode 7 - The Pre-E3 Non Video Game Themed Podcast

June 07, 2012 23:19

This is no doubt all of the fun we're missing at E3 2012 this year.  Don't worry though, we'll have loads of impressions, insight, and details about the hottest releasing video games from the show next week.  For now?  Enjoy a cat mosh pit.   Also wanted to give a quick thanks and shout-out to my good buddy Brookman (DJ Brillo) for hooking us up with some new intro music to kick off the show.  You can check him out in his side project "Willie Mitchell and the Devil's Pickle".  Thanks man. ...

TGR Episode 6 - Explosive Video Game In The Anus?

May 31, 2012 23:13

I regularly visit a forum where every other day or so, they'll post a thread named "LOL And You Lose".  This is the picture that I lost to.  Having seen the "original picture", aptly called "Lemon Party", I felt you needed to see it too.  It has absolutely nothing to do with today's show, but I wanted to share this pic, and that's what you do with a blog right? On today's Twisted Gamer Radio: - US Judge Could Ban The Xbox 360 - EA Bashes Black Ops II Fan Boys - Did Sony Make Mistakes Wi...

TGR Episode 5 - The Best Little Gaming Podcast In Texas

May 25, 2012 00:42

Yep.  That guy is probably from Texas. It's been a whirlwind of a week here in the Twisted Gamer household.  I sold a car I've had for 10 years, I finally got all the money needed to make beer, and I'm ramping up for a big cookout for Memorial Day.  On today's show, we get back into the heat of things and talk about digital prices being the same on launch day as a retail copy of the game, EA's got a scheme not unlike something we've seen before (*cough* Call of Duty Elite), and we touch br...

Goodbye Old Friend.......

May 22, 2012 22:55

I never thought this day would happen.  That one day I would do this.  But alas, I went and did it. I was one of the very few who held on for as long as I did, but sadly, it was time to say goodbye.  And the amazing thing is, the story of how it came to be, is just as interesting as it came to go out.  I bequeath my torch unto "66" and my good buddies Chris and Dave, as well as Paul from the MINI club.  Everyone I know from the "original" group has either sold theirs or moved on to MINI 2....

TGR Episode 4 - The Xbox Sucks Rap Vol. 3

May 18, 2012 23:47

Every once in awhile something gets inside Dalyn's ass and he has to write lyrics for an Xbox Sucks Rap.  We did it long ago, and we're up to Volume 3 now with his incredibly funny renditions.  I even poke fun that with all of the gangsta rap that came out back in the day, they wrote from the heart, about their upbringing in the 'hood and rapping about the hardships they had to go through.  Dalyn's hardships are having to put up with a "lackluster piece of shit system" called the Microsoft ...

TGR Episode 3 - A Contract To Play Your 360? No Thanks.

May 10, 2012 21:54

Someone is having a FABULOUS DAY! Dalyn is home right now alone with 4 of his kids, so we weren't able to record this week, but last week we sat down and did a "double show" - recording two episodes. This is the second show we did that day. We were almost talked out, and we might seem a little rushed, but I still think we put a great show on record. On today's Twisted Gamer Radio: - Waiters Give Black Patrons Bad Service - Dead Baby Pills For Your Health! - Signing A Contract To Play X...

TGR Episode 2 - Three Grandmas And Douchey Tim

May 04, 2012 20:47

There are no words that need to be said to describe the reason I chose that picture or the fact that Douchey Tim is back.  He's on the show today.  Enjoy it if you can.  I certainly did not like it. On today's Twisted Gamer Radio: - Grandparent's Give Awkward Congrats To Wedding Couple - Woman Donates Kidney To Boss, Then Gets Fired By Boss - Douchey Tim Returns! - Kids Get Drunk On Hand Sanitizer, It Cleans The Insides - Fucked Up News:  Sex Offender Steals Video Games From Cancer Ki...

Sometimes Immersion Goes Too Far

May 03, 2012 22:12

I love AAA title video games.  Well, most of them.  Some franchises today are considered AAA only because they made it to the second or third iteration in a franchise.  By that time gamers have figured out the formula and it's just gotten to the point of being stale (I'm looking at you Killzone 3, Gears 3, and Uncharted 3).  Being a AAA title doesn't immediately mean you'll have a great story (Killzone), great writing (Gears), or great gunplay (Uncharted) in your game. Let me be clear thou...

TGR Episode 1 - A New Venture For Distorted Gamer

April 27, 2012 00:59

I feel like I have to explain this episode title just a little bit.  This was our very first podcast episode title for Loot Ninja, and it set the bar on everything that we would do after that.  Over 60+ episodes later and I sit here typing a "new" podcast post for this blog - The Distorted Gamer.  In a way it's a subtle tribute.  A way to say thanks. I will not count any of the episodes before this as part of TGR.  We are starting fresh, starting new, and are re-branding ourselves and turn...

TGR Episode - The "All New" Twisted Gamer Radio

April 25, 2012 00:49

Hello everyone.  Glad you found us finally.  This will be the last of the "feed dump" episodes that I do.  "Feed dump".  Man that term I made up just sounds funny.  It's got a nice ring to it, but it also serves a purpose.  We're getting all of the cobwebs swept away from the recording equipment, computers, servers, podcast feeds, and everything else needed to bring you the Twisted Gamer Radio podcast. We're doing it our way this time, with no limitations or internal hurdles what-so-ever. ...

TGR Episode - The Year End "Best Of" Show

April 15, 2012 04:26

Well, I'm testing some stuff out, trying desperately to get Twisted Gamer Radio back on the podcasting airwaves. It's been a long ass time, and don't know if I'm truly ready to get back behind the mic. Don't worry, it's much easier this time around. I've already got all of the equipment. I've got web-hosting duties locked up for pretty cheap. I just need to figure this whole RSS/Blogger integration/iTunes bullshit out.  Here's hoping this all works. I'll be running some tests over the comi...

Video Games That Should Be Made!

March 28, 2012 03:12

Video games as an art-form are at an all-time high and with the next generation of consoles coming out in the near future I can only see the popularity rising. These are just a few ideas that I just came up with that I feel would make some pretty cool video games or DLC. 1. Zombie DLC for GTA IV or GTA V       The zombie pack for Red Dead Redemption (Undead Nightmare) was amazing, and is how you do zombified DLC.  Just think of how Niko Bellic could ride through Liberty City and instead o...
