Jesse Phillips joins us today on Train Smarter with Science. Jesse is an Australian Olympian from London 2012, in which he reached the Olympic final of the K2-200m with Steven Bird.
After failing to make the squad for the Rio 2016 Olympics, Jesse turned his attention to coaching and mentoring the athletes who would put it all on the line for glory in Brazil. Jesse talks to us about his passion for coaching, the sacrifices he and other athletes make and what it meant to reach an Olympic final in front of loved ones amongst 50,000 people in the stands, and millions around the world.
Looking forward, Jesse holds onto a slim chance of getting back on the water for Tokyo 2020, but isn't treading water in the meantime, finishing off his Bachelor of Psychology with the aim of further study and research.
Down to earth, inspiring and funny, our conversation with Jesse certainly went over time and we could've listened to anecdotes from his sporting career all day! Please enjoy, and send any questions you might have of Jman himself either to us or via his email below.
