So yet again we might have to wonder why a mistranslation was allowed to persist. Here’s a thought: Could a climate of shame have been useful to clerics who intended to be abusers?
Why should a sinful child expect to be treated well or to have boundaries and autonomy? They’re damaged, evil and judged, from birth—aren’t they? You can see how the abusive logic works.
