Tings and Things

449 episodes - English - Latest episode: 5 days ago - ★★★★★ - 19 ratings

Tings and Things is hosted by Jonathan Mbaya and Simba Tsumba, two lifelong friends. Our Podcast transcends borders and strips away all the filters from the perfectly edited and curated lives we have become accustomed to online. As a duo, we manage to open up a platform to have real conversations that touch upon what it means to live and learn, alongside occasional guest appearances from some of the most dynamic people across industries and our Tings & Things family. We found that through our travel and adventures, our struggles as young adults were not unique to us. Tings and Things was designed to share those experiences since those were not being discussed by traditional media outlets, and alongside our back and forth banter and undeniable chemistry, we have found the perfect formula to exhibit the everyday stories of life in an everyday conversational way.

November 25, 2021 14:00 - 54 minutes - 37.5 MB

There’s so much value in being single that people often overlook when we should be embracing and appreciating it instead. You have the freedom to learn, grow, and explore, without any of the guilt associated with taking time for self-care.

You vs You

November 18, 2021 14:00 - 54 minutes - 37.3 MB

As people strive for any improvement in their lives—whether it's more income, a better relationship, a promotion, a bigger business, or a better body—the most important battles they will face are against themselves. People invite problems into their lives through poor choices, apathy, indecision, arrogance, anxiety, selfishness, and other traits they would rather not discuss but must be addressed.

November 11, 2021 14:00 - 50 minutes - 34.6 MB

Growing Apart

November 04, 2021 14:00 - 53 minutes - 36.7 MB

Friends are integral to our lives. They're often the family we choose and with us for mundane moments and transformative milestones. Whether you've connected during childhood, at work, or through common interest, great friendships help us live longer (seven years longer, on average), make us happier, and support our best selves. At least, they should.

Making it Count

October 28, 2021 14:00 - 50 minutes - 34.6 MB

People do stupid things in their 20’s. God knows we did. But despite what people say, some people do change. We have made our fair share of mistakes in life and with that being said, we have been able to turn things around and learn a couple of things along the way.

Decorum

October 14, 2021 14:00 - 54 minutes - 37.6 MB

In our digital world of tweets, pokes and pings, it’s easy to forget about the basics of etiquette. After all, when you can do just about anything with a click of a button, from banking to shopping to dating – the time spent practicing real, face-to-face relationships can take a toll. We’ve been thinking about this for a minute now

Water Fountain

October 07, 2021 14:00 - 54 minutes - 37.8 MB

Being creative is a sticky one you know the vibes. It’s tough to sift through the creative block and get those juices flowing. Sometimes you look at your peers produce a huge body of work at an alarming pace it is easy to feel paralyzed.

0%

September 16, 2021 14:00 - 46 minutes - 31.7 MB

Every day you get a finite amount of energy to spend. How you choose to spend the currency that is energy is up to you. We have actively had to look at our lives and assess what has been going on and why we were so drained and what we did about it.

Create Don't Hate

September 09, 2021 14:00 - 52 minutes - 36.3 MB

This is a difficult one to navigate because obviously anything creative/or artistic is subjective right? However when you enter the space your analysis and critique of others becomes a lot more measured.

My Side of the Story

September 02, 2021 14:00 - 1 hour - 47.1 MB

We’ve tried to resolve it; we’ve confronted the other party; we’ve talked to friends; we’ve pleaded our case before a judge or jury, but no one listens to our side of the story. No one sees things the way we do. Perhaps the whole world is insensitive. Perhaps no one cares. Perhaps, but often there is another reason our story is ignored or misinterpreted: we’re simply not telling it right.

Not what I expected

August 26, 2021 14:00 - 50 minutes - 34.5 MB

We have all been victim of this. Building anticipation, sleepless nights, sweaty palms, erratic heartbeat and then boom it happens, and you are left shaking your head in disappointment. Learning to deal with that disappointment in a healthier and more helpful way is so important. It can be less a lot less scary and painful and actually a springboard or learning experience for further personal growth. Buckle up

Working with the homies can be a sticky one. We all like different things, we all have the aptitude for different things so how do we ensure that the whole team is winning, or is this just a Hollywood fantasy? We believe it is an interesting thought but in this episode, we investigate the practical application

Can't Please Everybody

August 12, 2021 14:00 - 48 minutes - 33.6 MB

“You cannot live to please everyone else. You have to edify, educate and fulfill your own dreams and destiny, and hope that whatever your art is that you’re putting out there if it’s received, great, I respect you for receiving it. If it’s not received, great, I respect you for not.” — Octavia Spencer

Talking Stages

August 05, 2021 14:00 - 1 hour - 42.6 MB

Talking stages are a real thing. We bet a couple of you are probably going through them as we speak. These joints are so abstract and undefined we thought we would come here and clear up a couple of things.

Empty the clip

July 22, 2021 14:00 - 48 minutes - 33.4 MB

Ah yes, this is definitely a call to action and not one of those toxic ones you find on the dark corners of Youtube. So often we flirt around with the idea of things, and this leads to casual interaction without any real or defined purpose. For the past 18 months or so, a lot of you have exposed yourselves to new things and there has certainly been a spark, why not empty the clip and see what’s on the other end?

Big Homie

July 15, 2021 14:00 - 45 minutes - 31 MB

As both big and little homies it is very interesting to understand the difference between these two. Irrespective of where you are on the homie ladder, it’s all about giving a game or learning the game. The push and pull of it all are rather exciting. The urban philosopher Jermaine Cole said, “I’m little bro and big bro all at once.”

You need a drink

July 08, 2021 14:00 - 54 minutes - 37.5 MB

^The default position when things go wrong and we feel overwhelmed. Now obviously not all of you drink but we are all escapists to a certain extent and some of our coping mechanisms can be quite unhealthy and detrimental to our health. Let’s talk about it

CALC 2002

July 01, 2021 14:00 - 1 hour - 43.2 MB

We overcomplicate our lives, relationships, goals, and to-do lists. We, as human beings, have a tendency to make things more difficult than they need to be. Happiness is found in simplicity — so how do you simplify your life?

Pick your Battles

June 24, 2021 14:00 - 1 hour - 41.6 MB

Knowing which battles to fight – and which to leave for another day, or even walk away from altogether – is critical to being successful in business – and in life. If you find yourself fighting too many battles, on too many fronts, you will end up feeling drained of emotional, mental and physical energy. What’s more, both your work performance and your relationships with your colleagues will inevitably suffer as a result.

Border Crossing

June 10, 2021 14:00 - 1 hour - 46.5 MB

There are a lot of misconceptions about what boundaries are and do for relationships. We may feel that boundaries are unnecessary because our partner is supposed to already know and act on our needs and wants, or that they ruin the relationship or interfere with the spice. In reality, all healthy relationships have boundaries! A relationship can’t be healthy until both partners communicate their boundaries clearly, and the other person respects them. No

June 03, 2021 15:00 - 45 minutes - 31.6 MB

There's a lot of talk, and a lot to be said, for the power of Yes. Yes supports courage, and an open-hearted approach to life whose grace cannot be minimized. But No—a metal grate that slams shut the window between one's self and the influence of others—is rarely celebrated. It's a hidden power because it is both easily misunderstood and difficult to engage.
