We are so excited to be joined on the podcast by our friend and coworker Ashley who is going to walk us through a lesson she did with some other faculty members for our 8th grade humanities class. In her workshop, Ashley uses To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Norman Rockwell paintings, and contemplative discussion to address the lenses of race, gender, and class within a classroom.
Questions to consider after listening: How do we react when a student or parent pushes back on our curriculum? How do you teach "canon" literature, like To Kill a Mockingbird, with sensitivity and awareness for all students?
