The Thirteenth Hour Podcast #415: Robots, Action Figures, and the Super Mario Brothers Movie (2023)!

This week on the show, I’m discussing about a few varied things.  I’ve made some progress on the Rocketeer articulated action figures to the point that they are basically assembled and just need some touching up and finalization of the details before working on the packaging.

I also got to do two things with my brother, Jeremy, that deserve their own episodes – making the 30 minute mission robots made by Bandai and doing a stand alone rpg that Jeremy created as a follow up for episodes 125, 126, and 127 (The Wayfarer’s Escape).   More details to come in the coming weeks!

I also got a chance to see the Super Mario Brothers movie with my kids.  We all enjoyed it.  Given that SMB was one of the first Nintendo games I played and was quite possibly the very first video game Jeremy played, there were a lot of nostalgic bits in the film that were nice to see.  See below for some of the fun ones I caught (I probably missed a lot of them) – the Mario Brothers cartoon theme that shows up as a commercial in the film and the Donkey Kong 64 rap (which shows in briefly during the scene where DK and Mario square off in a reworking of the original Donkey Kong 8 bit game.

If you were a kid in 1989 and at all interested in Nintendo, you probably remember the movie, The Wizard, where Super Mario Brothers 3 debuted.
