What is Bill 89 and what might it mean for you? We’ll discuss that today.
Starting back on August 1, a new piece of legislation called Bill 89 took effect in our area. Have you heard about it? If you haven’t and you own a vacation rental property, you’ll want to pay attention to today’s message.
With the passing of Bill 89, certain properties are prohibited from short-term rental usage going forward. If you’re found to be in violation, you’ll receive a 7-day notice to stop without penalty. After your first offense, you could be fined up to $1,000 a day.
If you’re looking to stay in a local vacation rental, ask the owner to let you see a copy of the property’s Nonconforming Use Certificate, so you can be sure they’re legally permitted to rent the space out on a short-term basis. Keep in mind that, per Bill 89, properties situated in resort areas can still be used for vacation rental purposes.
