In this podcast, Dr. Shaw continues to review her "Ten Governing Principles" for effective communication with children.  These principles make up the foundation of her new guidebook for parents just published recently and available at Amazon.com.  The book is titled I Like How You Speak to Me... A Parent's Guide to Effective Communication with Children, and the opening section of that book lists the aforementioned Ten Governing Principles for effective communication. Dr. Shaw promised that for ten straight podcasts she would delve into a discussion of one guiding principle per episode, and this is the tenth and final one in this series of conversations.  Her tenth governing principle, the one she discusses here, is TO BE PRESENT AND IN THE MOMENT. While Dr. Shaw starts out by stating that we should always want to be in the moment in our lives, it's not always so easy, especially when raising children. There's lots to do, and there always seems to be a stressful moment.  Sometimes those moments get in the way of paying attention to the one entity that needs your attention right then and there, your child. Each of the 10 governing principles is intended to be used in tandem with the other 9, and between this podcast series and her new parenting book, Dr. Shaw shares some great strategies for getting your parent-child communication to actually work.
