This episode is the second of a two-part mini-series of podcasts related to the theme found within Dr. Shaw's philosophy that nothing in life is only one way, and this particular half of that theme is focused on maintaining high expectations.  Dr. Shaw explains that while some folks feel that there is a negative side to having high expectations in that those expectations might not be reached, there is great benefit to having high expectations for your children and for yourself.  She provides illustrative examples and shares her own experience over many years of classroom instruction.  She also points out that the attitude exhibited by some that says that "if you have no expectations you won't be disappointed" is simply a way of getting yourself off the hook for the effort and results that holding a high bar can actually generate.
