This episode is the first of a two-part mini-series of podcasts related to the theme found within Dr. Shaw's philosophy that nothing in life is only one way, and this particular half of that theme is focused on the benefit of not having attachments.   A key observation is that there are elements in our world that are completely out of our control and those can have an impact upon us.  The best way to respond to those moments that we are influenced by an external element is to just be present and in the moment.  In terms of parenting, our children remind us what is most important to us... and we practice what we value in order to teach our children those most valuable lessons.   Dr. Shaw says that a great mental place to be is to simply embrace life in all of its fullness and with neutrality.   That doesn't mean there aren't likes and dislikes... it just means that without judgement, it makes situations better.
