At the midpoint of Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15), hosts Marianela Nunez and Mike Walsh chat with two favorite returning guests, Fr. Rene Canales, pastor, Our Lady of Guaduple Parish Shrine, Lindenwold, NJ and Helen Persing, principal, Saint John Paul II Elementary School, Stratford, NJ. Fr. Canales and Mrs. Persing have been working together as pastor and principal for only a year, but their individual work with Hispanic populations has been at the forefront of their daily lives for many years. On today’s show, we discuss the uniqueness of the many Latino cultures living in the South Jersey region and the benefits that are discovered when they are welcomed into our parish and school communities.

Fr. Canales has his own story as well, which we didn’t get to chat with him about on the podcast, but should not be missed as he became a U.S. citizen only a few short years ago. Read about it here: https://catholicstarherald.org/father-canales-embraced-by-the-nation-he-has-come-to-love/
