Levels of being out

Total secret (100% closed doors)Partial out (maybe in friend circles but generally not family or work)Totally out (shouting from the rooftops)

How open are you?

Social media - relationship status, tagging, sharing picturesPublic outings - Running into friends, family, co-workers, and the likeFamily events

Deciding when, how and whom to come out to is quite the challenge and there are a lot of resources for you out there. Here are our 4 basic tips to help get you started...

Bring your partners around your family/friends early. Introduce them however you are comfortable at the time but let your family/friends get to know them as a person BEFORE they make snap judgements of them as a partner.Talk about Polyamory and explain WHAT it means to you. (When I first mentioned it to my mom she assumed it was always swinger parties with keys in a bowl.)Explain WHY you are choosing to be polyamorous. Explain your abundance in love and how you aren’t using it as an excuse to cheat etc.Be OPEN to questions and feedback. Understand that everyone may not support you right away. Be patient and answer their questions and give them time.
