We were devastated to hear about the passing of Jerry Kiernan yesterday, aged 67.

Jerry finished 9th in the 1984 Olympics, won two Dublin marathons and ran a four-minute mile in 1976.

But more importantly, he was our, and many people's, 6th class teacher in St. Brigid's.

We had the honour of interviewing him last summer when Jerry was in great form, still speaking passionately as ever about Irish athletics.

We've decided to repost our chat.
