I’m very excited for this week’s guest. I’m joined by Professor of History at Black Hills State University, Kelly Kirk. Besides being a professor and director of the Honors Program at BHSU, Kelly is also one of the key figures in a fascinating project known as the Veterans’ Legacy Program (VLP).

The VLP works in coordination with communities to tell the stories of veterans interred in national cemeteries. BHSU has been running a program for several years that has drawn incredible support from the community and families of veterans.

In this jam-packed conversation, Kelly and I discuss growing up as the Harry Potter books were released, the importance of fiction in academics and professional life, and her work with the VLP.
