Tonight's special guest is Sherrie Allsup from Kansas City, Kansas, a survivor of long-term incest, as well as physical and emotional abuse, by her father. Her abuse started when she was 8 years old, and continued for nine years, until she was 17 years old and moved out of her parent’s home. Sherrie kept her secret from everyone including her husband and children until she was 35. When she disclosed her abuse, she started therapy to begin to heal her past wounds. Sherrie’s husband of twenty-three years was unwilling or unable to deal with her PTSD and deep trauma and divorced her. In addition to her abuse, Sherrie is a suicide attempt survivor. After years of therapy and healing, Sherrie is now married to an amazing man, Gary. With hiss support and encouragement, Sherrie is now the CEO and founder of the non profit Courage Starts With You – By Sherrie Allsup. She travels and speaks at high schools and colleges, suicide conferences, housing conferences, women’s conferences, and has the awesome privilege of educating Police Officers on trauma and sexual assault including how they present. Sherrie has completed over 120 hours of continued education in sexual assault and trauma from agencies such as the FBI, KBI and GBI. She is a speaker for the Texas Department of Justice Impact Panel, she has completed training to go into the Texas prisons and share her story of hope and healing with inmates. Sherrie is NAASCA Ambassador for the state of Kansas and a member of Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network (RAINN) and currently completing the process to be an expert witness for sex crimes and is starting her first book.
