Hello Language Lovers!

Thank you for joining me for another episode of Speaking Tongues, the podcast in conversation with multi-linguals! I’m your host, Elle Charisse.

Today I’m bringing you the seventh episode in this summer’s “Summer School” series where all summer long we are having conversations with language teachers. In today’s episode I’m speaking with Linda, an Italian teacher and the host of the Italian language podcast, “Pensieri e Parole”.

We cover quite a bit of ground in this conversation. Linda and I discuss Italian dialects and spoken Italian in the north of Italy. She’s teaching me a lot of Italian history that I didn’t know and we talk about how migration in Italy shaped the Piemontese dialect. Linda tells us some of the traits that can be important to have when learning a language and how common connections with fellow speakers can not only help someone trying to learn but how she’s able to use these connections with the students she teaches.

We also talked about what it means and how it feels when talking to native speakers and we share some experiences about how we navigate these exchanges. And, because by now you’ve been listening for a long time, you know that Italian is my second language and Linda graciously gives me the opportunity to practice a little bit of Italian with her.
