On this episode, Paul is joined by Eric’el Johnson, a young mentor in engineering, to talk about giving back including the mindset that is required to be able to give back to someone who has done good for you.

In her professional life Eric’el helps female engineers to connect with each other and get mentors to help them to the next stage of their career helping with interviews etc. She also helps with college students to find careers in STEM (science, Technology, engineering and mathematics).

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Even if you’re in a dark place you can help others come out of their dark place by sharing your experience and solutions about coming out of that dark place
Giving back doesn’t just mean giving in financial terms, but there’s also a huge emphasis on emotional currency too; being there and supporting people, being a resource for others is instrumental. Giving money is great but providing an emotional connection carries on much longer than a financial connection.
What’s important is knowing that we’re having a positive impact somewhere, in some walk of life, that has value that will carry on beyond us .
Find out how Eric’el scores on Paul’s scale of six human needs and whether or not she’s addicted to giving back.

BEST MOMENTS

‘You cannot give what you don’t have, but everyone has time to lend’

‘I love to see other people develop and reach their full potential’

‘The highest human need is the need for contribution’

‘It feels weird to me not to want to help others’
