Paul is joined again by Gail Acaster, and her daughter Ruby, to discuss the differences in the generation gap - including differences in music taste, the gap between young and old, and how that gap can be bridged.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Mum plays a lot of old rock and heavy metal music but it’s nice to hear the music that she grew up with and how it’s changed from back then to now, I listen to a range of music, and it depends on my mood or what I’m doing. But it’s more DJs than bands.
A lot of people have different ways of looking at things, which can be down to the way they were brought up. Older people can sometimes blame young people for things or call them stupid, but everybody is responsible for themselves and live in the moment.
More communication needs to happen with people over 60 because they weren’t brought up to interact with young people as much, the men went out to work and the women looked after the house. People in their 40s and 50s are spending more time with their children.
I’m an adult and I have bills to pay, but seeing the world through the eyes of my children is a daily reminder of youth and life and all the possibilities in front of them. I’ll still adopt that attitude in my old age.
BEST MOMENTS
‘I can relate to young people because of my daughter.’
‘I don’t think the older generation get to know the young generation as much as they should.’
‘Age actually is just a number.’
‘the world is a playground, it’s what you make of it.’
