On this episode Paul is joined by returning guest, Noha Hefny, to talk more about unsung heroes. This time they discuss how to give unsung heroes greater visibility and how they should be rewarded.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

There are many stories of unsung heroes that have an opportunity to gain the attention of editors of media organisations around the world. Media has a great role to play in bringing much needed visibility to these stories.
Organisations need to reward behaviours rather than big rewards and outcomes. Recognising people on the basis of values, integrity, actions that they take selflessly. These things should have their own dedicated awards.
Young people are stepping up to make a difference more and more but are often unable to receive the recognition for their efforts or even their ideas. Their ideas can change the world. I’m extremely passionate about the role of youth in advancing sustainable development and we have a great responsibility to go to greater lengths to mentor, develop and build a future generation that is socially responsible, equipped, enabled and empowered to take action on key issues facing the world.
The way we interact with nature is important. As human beings we have an instinct to be selfish and take things for granted, especially things we don’t have to pay for or invest a lot of effort in, whether that’s water or the air that we breathe. These are things that we’ve taken for granted for a very long time and there are some people who are bravely stepping up to save our planet, to address climate change, to protect nature and animals that are going extinct. This is the basic ecosystem of our lives, if we don’t protect nature and the environment, I don’t know how we’ll survive as the human race.

BEST MOMENTS

‘In recent years we’ve been witnessing around the world a rising consciousness, a deeper yearning to connect with human values. This is something that should be captured by brands, the media, anyone who is involved in storytelling.’

‘We as people need to remember to be kind to others and recognise others in our communities that are doing things for their communities without expecting anything in return and taking time to express love and gratitude within our communities.’

‘Mothers are definitely unsung heroes. Mothers make incredible sacrifices for their children and trade-offs to raise a generation of healthy, productive members of society.’

‘The youth are the future and the leaders of tomorrow and it is our responsibility to bring the best of that and channel their energy in a positive direction if we want to see a better world.’
