In a new mini-series, Paul and his special guest, relationship expert Kelly Brandli, talk in detail about the Ten Disciplines Of Love, the concept developed by Tony Robbins in order to allow us to build extraordinary relationships

In this week’s edition, Paul and Kelly discuss the discipline of Positive Intent, including the six elements that comprise it, and how basic human needs play a huge part in our partners’ behaviour...

KEY TAKEAWAYS

The discipline of positive intent is made up of six elements:

Work to eliminate threats and judgment
Understand, recognise, and meet your partner’s basic needs
Learn to decide that you know your partner’s soul and that their intent is pure
Take responsibility and learn to say “I’m sorry”
To not blame our partners
Making a decision and sticking by that decision

We are always striving to fulfil one of the six basic human needs, but these may fluctuate and change depending on which stage of life we are in.
Our core beliefs play a huge role in our perceptions. Depending on the beliefs we nurture, any given situation can play out to our sensibilities in entirely different ways for others.
Blame can be hugely detrimental, not just to your partner, but to yourself, Blame causes defence mechanisms to activate, meaning that our partner will be less likely to engage.

BEST MOMENTS

‘Your partner’s primary motivation in a lot of situations, is to meet one of their six basic human needs’

‘Rules and beliefs go very, very much hand-in-glove’

‘When someone is in a defensive mode, they’re no longer open to listening or understanding’

‘Often, the people we are hardest on are the people who are closest to us’

ABOUT THE HOST

One thing that’s never been attached to Paul is the label ‘normal’ – something he is totally aware of.  He definitely subscribes to being one of those mentioned the iconic ‘Think Different’ Apple commercial narrated by Steve Jobs in 1977:

“Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules.  You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do!”

Paul has a long and distinguished history of coaching & mentoring – particularly focusing on helping people make the transition from pain to purpose; a journey he has made himself, from the depths of a deep dark existence, to now living a life of happiness and prosperity.

Through this Mastering The Game Of Life podcast, and books he has been involved in – including being a best-selling co-author – Paul also helps others to get their own inspirational messages and stories out into the world; as well as offering support to many charitable organisations, in their development & fund-raising.

“Remember – Mastering The Game Of Life Starts, By Embracing Our Hearts!”
