In the sermon this past Sunday, we looked in Hebrews 5:11-6:12 at how the author of Hebrews both challenges and assures the church of Hebrews in their relationship with Jesus. As Christians, truly rooted in relationship with Jesus, we are to be growing and maturing in our relationship with Jesus. When we are truly connected to Jesus by faith, he produces good crop in us, when we are not connected to Jesus, we may experience spiritual things but we will produce thorns and thistles. We see from this passage it is a good and healthy thing for us to ask safe questions about our relationship with Jesus such as “Does my life show that I am rooted in a relationship with Jesus or does it show that I am disconnected from him?”  As we live out our faith rooted in Jesus, there is deeper joy, satisfaction, and trust to be found. The driving force behind our faith is the assurance that comes from the eternal hope we have in Jesus. This assurance comes to us as we rest in the saving and changing grace of God. Therefore the focus of our lives as Christians is on the hope that comes to us through Christ.
