For the first time ever the Ghost in the Shell franchise hit the big screen in a live-action feature film. With a big name attached to it, Scarlett Johansson, slated to play the Major; producers were hoping this would be the anime to live action break into Hollywood many were looking forward to for a long time. With the movie being in production for 9 years, the movie went through many setbacks along the way, including an infamous "whitewashing" controversy.
