In a podcast first, we’re thrilled to be joined by two of our elite leaders in women’s hoops - Basketball Australia’s Head of Women in Basketball and a hoops legend, Lauren Jackson, as well as FIBA Women’s World Cup (FIBAWWC) Opals Captain Tess Madgen.

Both Lauren and Tess give us an update on their respective recoveries and where they’re at, and share their passion and ‘reason why’ for the She Hoops program.

She Hoops is a bold vision led by LJ offering free training and courses for women to enhance, connect and extend their involvement in all aspects of basketball, and looking forward will expand it’s scope to increase participation of girls from a younger age, and then keep them involved whether it’s through playing, coaching, officiating, or other pathways.

Australia’s recent Bronze at the FIBAWWC and the groundswell of fan support has further motivated LJ and Tess to share the joys and benefits for girls in participating in basketball. Both are aware of the benefits of playing basketball, not just physically but also for teenagers to emerge as fully rounded adults.

In this formative phase through the support and involvement of leaders like Tess, the program is already building capacity in our grassroots community for future generations and as word spreads, in terms of potential, to quote LJ “… it’s limitless.”

Enjoy!
