You know that saying the more we share, the more we have.  Well, when it comes to today’s guest, Helen Andrew she has built a platform and business based around this.   She is the Founder of a sharing platform called Spare Harvest.  Spare Harvest brings together people in local communities to exchange what they have spare in their kitchens and gardens.

And its no wonder she has seen much growth and success within it, the waste facts are very clear that something different needs to disrupt the industry of waste and how people view it, understand it and work within it.  The global cost of waste is estimated to be almost $1trillion a year and that food waste is more toxic to our planet than driving our cars or flying.  When food or any organic matter ends up in landfill it produces toxic greenhouse gases including methane which is 25X more toxic than Co2.

I learnt so much from Helen - like, when we waste all this food, we also waste all the resources that go into growing it, transporting it, storing it and selling it.  So, the waste continues, yet while we waste this food, we also see people in our communities experience food insecurity.  Globally there are 43 million people who can’t afford a quality meal every other day.  Its unbelievable!!

Why I love Spare Harvest so much is that it is a similar concept to ShareAbode.  Its a platform that connects certain people for a certain common goal.  Spare Harvest, is a community tool that connects people to share, swap, sell and source spare, idle and unwanted food and garden resources.  The connection of people isn't just about waste, but its about creating a network thats sustainable socially and environmentally.  Plus, educationally.

This episode with Helen truly was one of those "WOW" podcasts that you know that when the word gets out about Spare Harvest to the masses, it can literally change many, many lives.  So, I'd love you to help me do that and follow her social links and share this episode with anyone and everyone because the more we share the more we can care for our planet and everything living on it, including us.
