In 1984, Joe Newman started leaving cassette tapes with music made with his cheap 4-track mixer on the front counter of The Record Exchange in Austin, Texas. People bought the cassette and thus was born — The Rudy Schwartz Project.

Joe left Texas for Canada when the political insanity became too much for him back in the days of Bush — imagine what would have happened if he had stayed? After living in Montreal for years, he’s now writing and producing new songs about Donald Trump and other scary things from British Columbia.

I first heard Joe on the Hour of Slack podcast, a show hosted by Rev Ivan Stang, Head Clerk… er… Scribe of the Church of the SubGenius. Since then, I’ve been working my way though his catalog of politically, intellectually and scatalogically diverse songs, which are all awesome!

We’ll talk about his story a bit, his music, the political situation, B-movies and whatever. This interview is much more informal than most – so there is practically no editing at all. SO BEWARE. Chill out and relax please.
