Facebook ads can definitely be a bit hit & miss, so I wanted to share the strategy I use when I’m using facebook ads to sell an offer online. There are 4 different types of ads I use. I will go through these in the order that I think are most important:

1. Retargeting ads. These are the first type ads I set up. The idea is that anyone who visits your sales page, then sees ads for your product for the next 7-14 days.

The cost of retargeting ads is low – maybe 10-300 people see your sales page each day. They could be from organic traffic from social media, a podcast, youtube videos. They could be after you sent an email to your email list. It’s not going to be a huge amount of people. However – if they have already VISITED your sales page – they are a very hot audience & quite likely to buy.

2. Ads to my warm audiences.

People on my email list (you can upload your email list to FB)

People who have interacted with my FB page

Previous customers

People who follow my facebook page

People who have visited my website (but not the sales page)

Larger group of people, buy they know like & trust you, so could easily buy your offer.

These types of audiences are called custom audiences.

3. Ads to lookalike audiences

What are they?

They are people who are LIKE your existing customers!

They are people who are LIKE people who visited your sales page

They are people who are LIKE people who follow you on FB

Any type of custom audience – you can tell FB to make a lookalike audience

Much larger group of people (1-3 million)

They don’t know you or your business

But they have the same interests & similar demographics to people who do know & like you

  4. Ads to cold traffic.

What are they?

Ads to people who are interested in your niche, but have never heard of you

Can be a very larger group of people

They are the hardest group to get to purchase your offer

If you have an existing audience I would use:

Retargeting ads (usually the lowest cost & highest conversions)

Ads to my warm audience (followers, customers & email list)

Lookalike audiences

If you have a new business and no audience I would use:

Retargeting ads (usually the lowest cost & highest conversions)

Cold traffic ads

How do I set these ads up in Facebook?

I use 4 different campaigns. A retargeting campaign, a warm audiences campaign, a lookalike campaign, and a cold traffic campaign.
