“You wake up with an  idea, you get the guitar, you fool around with it and then it evolves. That’s how you write a song, how I write a song.” - Allen Finney

Today we’re chatting with local blues legend Allen Finney Allen is a beautiful story teller and he has lived through some epic times, including opening for Canned Heat & JJ Cale, to name only a few. Since then, he’s settled down in a simpler life here in Stockholm, Sweden. We first met when I attended a show of his where he performed with Eric Hansson at Izzy Young’s Folklore Center. I was absolutely spellbound when I saw him for the first time, to the point where I actually bought a physical CD- the last CD I ever bought.  The song we break down in this episode is one of my favorite songs to play myself, so you might hear me humming or adding a little harmony- I just couldn't help myself!

In this freewheelin’ episode, we discuss:

✨His system of continuous song revision.
✨The story of when he bought his red J 45 guitar 57 years ago in Flint, Michigan.
✨Some old drug lingo that is new to me.
✨How some songs come rushing through, and others take years to evolve.
✨And we even get one BONUS song at the end!! You’re welcome!!

Take the Change - Allen's song with me on harmony :)
