The myth that winners never quit is an oft repeated and harmful falsehood that is responsible for so much pain.

If you don’t believe me, ask Seth Godin. In 2007 he wrote a book called “The Dip” that in his words, teaches you when to quit. He goes on to explain that winners quit all the time.

He was right then, and he’s right today.

So why has the concept that quitting is bad become ingrained into the belief systems of so many people, and why should you care?

It gets there because we hear stories of successful people, often entrepreneurs or celebrities, who achieved their goal through sheer perseverance. Or so it seems. So when we’re having a tough go of it, it’s easy to tell ourselves that all we have to do is put our head down, keep doing what we’ve been doing, and wait for things to get better.

This is a dangerous belief system because it flies in the face of common sense. Persisting in doing the same thing can take us closer to or further away from the things we want. We have to learn to distinguish between the goals that we’re chasing, and the path that we’re taking to get there. So how do you do that?

Well first of all it's helpful to know why you believe that persistence is the right approach. So I share with you 3 reasons why many of us are in denial. And I also give you five key questions you can ask yourself if a part of you is questioning the path your on.

Name one time when quitting something was the right thing to do?
