Born in The Netherlands and living in Paris, Lousin Mehrabi was on the fast track to success in the world of finance, when the 2008 subprime crisis changed her perception of career success in a big way.

There was a suicide in the company she was working for, and she saw first hand how quickly employees could become disposable assets. (According to OECD the number of unemployed persons in the OECD area increased from 34 million in 2008 to 42.1 million in 2010 – the most rapid rise in OECD unemployment since the early 1990s. And according to the New York Times job losses in the U.S. increased by 2.6 million people in 2008 alone).

She continued her career in finance for several more years, but found herself longing for more in life. And in 2016 she made a brave decision. She quit her well paid job, invested some time and money in professional development and and started her own coaching practice

In her words she was living her dream life and career. Then life hit her with the biggest hardship she have ever faced when she learned that her six year old son had Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The doctor told her “ this is a 100% fatal disease for which there is no cure”. She was told her son would be in a wheelchair somewhere between the age of 8-12, and that the average lifespan was between 25-30.

When she asked the doctor what they could do, he replied, “there’s nothing you can do.” Lousin didn’t accept that answer.

She knew that a warmer climate would be good for her son. The warmth of the sun, being able to go to the beach, would improve his quality of life immensely.  So without hesitation, the family moved to Dubai, where she now lives. I caught up with he this fall when she was back home in the Netherlands for a visit. This is an inspiring story about facing adversity head on, taking control of your own destiny, and ignoring the naysayers. Contact Lousin:
