When it comes to horror fiction, there is one writer that has reigned supreme for nearly fifty years. That writer is Stephen King. He’s probably the reason that so many people, me included, are horror fiends. Ask any fan and they can tell you what King story was their initiation into his world. King has created whole worlds and mythologies that have become such a part of our culture that even people who don’t identify as horror fans recognize some of his creations. Think of the red balloon. You don’t have to have read IT or seen one of the film adaptations to know what that is.
One of his greatest creations is a small town, about 60 kilometers from Portland Maine. Castle Rock, Maine, is probably not a place you want to live in, but boy, do we sure like to visit. Castle Rock is the setting for so many Stephen King short stories, novellas and novels.
There was only one possible choice for an episode about the town of Castle Rock, friend of the pod Ryan. He’s probably the biggest Stephen King fan I know, doing a thorough read through of his bibliography over the past few years and starting the Castle Rock Book Club in 2021.
