In this special edition episode, I attended my first National Religious Broadcast Convention in Dallas, Texas and right there on the Expo floor I got the privilege of interviewing Derral Eves from The Chosen tv series. Also while at the convention I got to attend the first-ever live stream event of Season 2, episode 6 that sold out in under 7 minutes!

Who is Derral Eves?

Derral Eves is the executive producer of The Chosen, the highest-grossing crowdfunded movie or television project of all time. The Chosen series reaches across religious boundaries to give viewers from all walks of life a non-denominational, non-Hollywood portrayal of the life of Jesus Christ and the people who encountered Him. Derral’s unique skills in audience development and project distribution account for much of the project’s worldwide exposure and success. Derral has worked on countless video projects for two decades—but when he came across The Chosen, he felt like everything he had done in his career and personal life had been leading to this project. It is his #1 career passion and focus.

Derral is CEO of Creatus, a video marketing strategy company, and the founder of VidSummit, an annual event in Los Angeles for video creators and marketers. He has helped 24 YouTube channels go from zero to more than a million subscribers, and he has generated 54 billion views on YouTube.

Derral’s personal and career mission is to help individuals, brands, and businesses make a positive impact in the world, but his greatest passion is his family: his wife, Carolyn, and their five amazing children, Elle, Logan, Kelton, Thatcher, and Bridger.

 

The Chosen budget and goals

We got to talk about all things Chosen. Derral shares how he was introduced to creator Dallas Jenkins and how The Chosen went from a $0 budget to becoming the largest grossing crowd funded tv series in history with 19,000 people investing over $10 million. Currently The Chosen tv series operates on 1/8 of what an average tv show operates on. Derral looks forward to the day when Dallas can create content ‘unleashed’ at $5 million per episode.

The Chosen Army

Have you heard about The Chosen Army? Derral says this is one way popularity of The Chosen is spreading! Their goal is for 1billion people to watch, and the Chosen Army is helping to pave the way!

Listen to hear one of Derral’s favorite parts of the show and what he learned after he watched it. Hear his personal salvation story and what motivated him to go from religion to discovering his own personal relationship with Jesus! Then learn what he did once that happened. Derral also discusses the human side of Jesus Christ in which He had personal relationships and not in a diety relationship, but with friends and family on earth which makes Him approachable.

Derral speaks about how he grew his career out of understanding Generation Z and Millennials. He shares how they are disconnected from a culture of shaming, condemning, and bible-thumping practices. These generations connect with authentic relationships where they can see and know that real people have real issues and to learn the ways they solve and overcome the issues. Derral praises Dallas and the writers of The Chosen tv series in showing humanity both in its glorified state as well as its worst times.
