When people are trying to chase a dream and achieve something great, naysayers love to say “the odds are against you.” But the odds are only against you if you believe you are average in your pursuit of that greatness. The odds of a given outcome are based on the average chance it happens but just like I never thought I was an average baseball player and eventually reached the major leagues playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers, you cannot think you are average if you are trying to be great in your own pursuits. So forget about the odds because when you know you are better than the average Joe when it comes to whatever passion you are trying to pursue, the odds don't matter.

Be sure to check out my next longform interview with Los Angeles Dodger great Steve Garvey! That episode will be available on Thursday, Aug. 19.  You'll love what he has to say.
