Kindness and selflessness are things that can feel like they are in short supply these days, but there are so many people out there working to make their communities a better place.

One such man is Eliot Middleton. Middleton owns a BBQ restaurant in South Carolina and in 2020 at the nudging of friends entered a BBQ competition and won. Eliot decided to take half his prize money and put it towards Thanksgiving meals for those who needed them in his community. On the day of his food drive he noticed a lot of people showed up late because they had no reliable transportation.

Middleton realized that those without cars, who lived out of town were extremely limited in their ability to travel for better paying jobs and other services, so he put out a call on social media: give me your old broken-down car and I’ll give you some ribs. Middleton began to fix those cars and donate them to those in need. The idea has ballooned in that a non-profit organization has received 800 cars to be repaired and donated.

So today we celebrate people like Middleton who are working in their communities to make the lives of those around them better.
