This lecture discusses key ideas from the 19th century Utilitarian philosopher John Stuart Mill's work, Utilitarianism

It focuses specifically on on chapter 3, where Mill starts out by discussing the "sanctions" (a term he is taking from Bentham) providing a basis for accepting Utilitarianism, and then discusses his view of the nature of duty, the sense of obligation it creates in a person, and the role of habit in establishing this notion.
