This lecture discusses key ideas from the Utilitarian philosopher, Jeremy Bentham's work, Introduction to the Principles of Morals and Legislation
Here we examine the distinction he makes between partial and extensive benevolence. Partial Benevolence is a motivation which involves taking pleasure in helping -- producing pleasure or removing pain -- a limited portion of the larger community. Extensive Benevolence looks to the interests of the entire community concerned.
