This lecture discusses key ideas from the modern empiricist philosopher David Hume' Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding

It focuses specifically on the principle that allows us to step beyond the confines of present sense-perception and past memory in "matters of fact" or "real existence". This is the principle of custom or habit, which inclines us to assume that the future will resemble the past. This principle, for Hume, lies at the basis of our association of ideas along the lines of cause and effect.
