Aristotle, Nicomachean Ethics Book 6 - Intellect (Nous) - Sadler's Lectures

This lecture discusses key ideas from the ancient philosopher Aristotle's work of moral theory, the Nicomachean Ethics.

Specifically it focuses focuses on Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics book 6, and examines his discussion of the intellectual virtue of Nous, a term translated in a variety of ways - Intellect, Intelligence, Understanding, or Intuition being some of the more common.

Nous, according to the anthropology/psychology of knowledge outlined in book 6, involves the grasp of first principles that other intellectual virtues/modes of knowing then focus upon. Aristotle connects Nous particularly with scientific knowledge (episteme), and maintains that both of them are integrated in wisdom (sophia).
