This lecture discusses the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle' work, the Categories, focusing on his distinction in chapter 5 between two sorts of secondary substances - species (eidos) and genus (genos). Species are types of things, i.e. of primary substances or individually existing things. Genuses have a similar relation to species, as species do to individual things.
