Dr. Megan Cannon is a Sports Psychologist whose passion is helping athletes improve their emotional health and achieve their peak performance. Dr. Cannon believes in the Mind of the Athlete philosophy that a clearer mind leads to better performance. Therefore, she is dedicated to assisting athletes achieve clarity and focus to perform better both individually and as a member of a team. Dr. Cannon has extensive training within the field of psychology. She received her Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University in 2013, after earning a Bachelors Degree in psychology from Wilkes University. She completed her pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral training at Pacific Clinics, a community mental health agency in Southern California. Dr. Cannon has served as an independent contractor with Mind of the Athlete since 2015. She is licensed in Pennsylvania and California, and is a member of the American Psychological Association. Dr. Cannon works with teams and athletes at all levels in their careers across the country. She has worked with individual athletes and teams at schools such as Old Dominion University, Bucknell University, University of Pittsburg, University of Massachusetts, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Duquense University, and many more. Dr. Cannon and Mind of the Athlete have been highlighted numerous times in the media. Dr. Cannon has appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter multiple times as an expert on sports psychology. Mind of the Athlete has been featured in USA Today, NY Daily News, and on ESPN Radio. During her time at Nova Southeastern University, Dr. Cannon had the opportunity to work in the Sport Psychology Program within the university’s Sports Medicine Clinic. Dr. Cannon gained experience providing performance coaching and individual therapy to college student athletes, along with completing presentations and team-building activities with collegiate, high school, and youth club teams. Dr. Cannon also administered the Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing (ImPACT 2.0) program to assess athletes’ baseline and post-concussive cognitive functioning and assisted in establishing return-to-play decisions. Dr. Cannon grew up in the world of athletics, competing in swimming, softball, and basketball. She was a member of the 4-time district winning women’s swim team at Allentown (PA) Central Catholic High School and competed at the state level. Along with performing on the field and in the pool, Dr. Cannon performed and competed on stage. She began training in ballet, jazz, and tap at the age of three and continued throughout college, where she minored in dance and was a member of the university’s dance team.
