Are the military standards for physical fitness outdated and follow a model for just one body type? My next guest this Saturday at 7:30 pm EST for Stories of Service thinks so and has bravely shared her struggles for years confirming to a standard that’s recently come into question as more people speak out against it.

Meet Navy Lt. Meagan Morrison. She’s a naval officer currently stationed in Guam. She’s a professional communicator, a stand-up comedian, and a fellow storyteller. She was my division officer during our tour on USS Nimitz, and I saw firsthand how relentless she was about diet and exercise, only to struggle each fitness cycle to meet a standard that wasn’t designed with her body type in mind. She comes from a family of women who embrace their genetics, and she’s inspiring through her social media channels for others to do the same, while also detailing her disciplined workout regimen.

Beyond that, she’s a cheerleader for her people, has won numerous awards for excellence in our craft, and was most recently named a 2021 Federally Employed Women Military Meritorious Award recipient.

She’s made me a better public affairs officer and challenged me in ways I never imagined. I think the world of her, and so will you once you hear her story and how she is bravely speaking so candidly about such a sensitive topic.
