The NHL has signed a deal with Adidas to make all thirty teams game shirts. Off the record, NHL front office types are saying that next will be a sponsorship deal with Adidas where they company's logo is prominently displayed on the jerseys of all the teams. But are other commercial logos to come, like Euro soccer/hockey leagues? An Adidas deal would represent $120 million a year to the NHL and $4 million per team. According to Mark Yost there is big money involved, a few weeks ago he told us on air that Jim Furyk gets $75,000 a year for a very small bank logo on the back of his golf shirt's collar.Are you ready for the Canadiens, Leafs, Flames, Oilers, Canucks, Jets, Black Hawks, Red Wings, Rangers, etc, logos to disappear from the fronts of their team sweaters and be replaced by a Tim Hortons, Air Canada, Ford, etc, logo?
