Two NYPD officers, Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were murdered while sitting in their cruiser yesterday afternoon. The killer, Ismaaiyl Brinsley committed suicide as he was being closed in on by police. He is said to have shot his former girlfriend before travelling from Baltimore to New York City with the plan to kill police officers, in retaliation for the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. Baltimore police sent a warning to the NYPD about Brinsley's threats, but they arrived at the same time as the killings took place. NYPD are furious at New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, with the police union president Patrick Lynch saying "that blood on the hands starts on the steps of City Hall, in the office of the mayor." (A Florida police officer was also killed last night.)
