The story of Billie Holiday is not an easy one to tell. She was complex woman with endless talent. Not only a woman, but a woman of color, she came into the world of jazz and changed it forever. But it wasn't easy. It wasn't ever easy for Billie. From an abusive childhood, to an adulthood fraught with addiction, racism, and troubles with the law, this woman never got a break, but stood to face it every time. With a voice unlike any that was heard before, Billie performed with the likes of Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong, and many more. Lady Day was not given her due in life, but in death, let us celebrate this legendary woman who brought an allure and elegance to jazz.
