Welcome to a very special episode of Robby the Robot’s Waiting – an instalment with added SFX appeal!

SFX, the world’s number one sci-fi and fantasy magazine, celebrated its 25th anniversary this year. That’s kind of a big deal, so for the first time in the entire history of the universe, we’ve brought together all five of the magazine’s editors – from launch ed Matt Bielby to current captain of the ship Darren Scott – to reminisce on the history of a sci-fi institution. It’s like The Five Doctors but nerdier.

In fact, it turns out that once you get a geekery (we’re calling it as the collective noun) of sci-fi editors together they just keep talking, so we’ve split this SFX special into two episodes. In this first instalment, Matt, Dave G, Dave B, Rich and Darren look back on the origins of the magazine, how they each wound up at the helm, how they decide what’s "SFX" and what isn’t, plus loads more – including an unlikely appearance on Anne and Nick’s sofa.

There’ll be loads more goodies in Part 2, where we might just talk about how SFX’s name sometimes gets confused for another word. It’ll be available to download from around Tuesday 3 November 2020. Please remember to like and subscribe wherever you're hearing this podcast, so that you don't miss it.

While you’re waiting, why not check out the latest issue of SFX, along with details of how to subscribe and buy single issues online.
